More details about the types of tiles can be read here. Perhaps there is not such a homeowner, who did not try to put the tiles with his hands at least once. But usually, after a couple of attempts people throw away all this business – everything goes awry. But in fact there’s nothing complicated there, laying ceramic tile is simple process. You only need to know some features and some of the rules. Let’s talk about it right now…

Easy Way DIY Wall Tiling Advice

Be sure to prepare the wall. It sounds simple: wall for future cladding need to be plastered. And the more flat plaster, which is the basis for facing – the faster the work will go. The plaster is applied in two layers: the first is the main and second is leveling. The first layer of plaster is designed to remove large irregularities of the walls up to 3 centimeters. The second layer aligns irregularities up to 0.5-1.0 centimeters.

Each layer of plaster should be given to dry at least 12 hours. And what if the wall is already has old plaster and it’s dyed moreover? In this case, we must meet necessary requirement – the paint must be removed, and the plaster must be applied to the notch. Old paint can be easily removed by grinder with stiff wire attachment. Notches can be done quickly, also with the help of the grinder – it fits just three discs for stonework and cut grooves of 0.8-1.0 cm depth and the distance between them in the 8-10 cm. In other words – each tile must have two grooves. The notch (groove) must have vertical and horizontal direction to form a grid. After that, the wall must be thoroughly cleaned from dust. More details about the rough finish you can read here.

After applying a notch, the wall must be necessarily primed. If this is not done, no glue will hold the tiles on the walls – it is sure to fall off later. Now building materials stores have no deficit in the primer for the tiles. You just have to ask the seller. But it’s best to apply as a primer “Concrete contact”. This is a proven and reliable mean. After priming, the walls should be given dry during the day too.

Do not be lazy and always apply a marking for the first rows. Marking lines are applied in the usual pencil with a large building level. The horizontal line marking for the bottom row is applied first, and then a vertical line in the right corner of the wall. If you are left-handed, then the vertical line marking should be applied in the left corner of the wall. When applying the marking there is one feature that it is necessary to comply with: marking lines should margin the tile by 5-8 millimeters. Otherwise you will smear the line with glue and it would be barely seen or disappear at all.

Tile sticking should be produced on the adhesive. Do not experiment with cement mortar. In addition, when choosing the adhesive in the store, note type of the adhesive. If you want to coat the walls of the bathroom or the toilet, choose moisture resistant glue. When diluting the glue (if it is a dry mixture), be sure to observe the proportion of the packaging.

When applying the adhesive on the tile, use a comb trowel with teeth height of 8-10 mm.

It`s IMPORTANT: When applying the adhesive on the wall, a comb trowel should be held at an angle of 45 degrees. At the very tile adhesive applied in a very thin layer of primer. Use a flat spatula to do this.

Always use the plastic crosses normalizing the thickness of 1.5-2.0 mm. Otherwise, the seams will be uneven and tile during installation will crawl. And, eventually, you will ruin the whole lining.

And now look at the sequence of works by photos:

As a small suggestions … Tiling a simple process, but never hurry. If a row has gone uneven, remove it mercilessly. Otherwise distortions would be almost impossible to align.
