Choosing Ceramic Tile for Small Bathroom

Ceramic tiles are a beautiful and functional material for finishing the bathroom. Tile is the best choice for a room where it is usually wet and it is possible of getting water on the walls. By successful choosing ceramic tile for small bathroom, you can make a space beautiful and cozy.

Colour

Shades of light colors are better for small rooms. But the whole room does not need to be solid. Moreover, almost all manufacturers produce tiles with collections including tiles for walls and floors and various decorative elements – borders, panels, etc. A tile of contrasting colors sometimes visually reduces an already small room. A fashionable trend is to use mirror tile elements. Mirrors really expand the space, but we must take into account that not everyone is pleased to see themselves, for example, being washed in the shower, and, moreover, divided into many parts. More saturated colors make the room deeper, but only if it is properly lit. Warm colors look more pleasant the bathroom, but sometimes cool shades add a sense of spaciousness.

Drawing and Relief

Glazed tiles are usually used for bathrooms. It appears with a glossy and matte surface. A glossy surface will visually increase the room, make it more bright or airy. But it has clearly visible lime coating from dripping drops of water, so care for such a tile will be somewhat more difficult. Ceramic tiles can be smooth and embossed. When choosing a relief tile, you should carefully consider whether the glaze is evenly applied to the decorative elements. For a small room it is important that there are not too many relief elements. It is undesirable to trim the entire room with structured tiles. Such elements look much more effective in the form of accents.

Drawings in the size of one tile also look good in a small room. It is possible to place several decorative elements on a monophonic wall background. Large solid panels will bring the wall on which they are located closer to the observer. This option of finishing is suitable for narrow and long rooms, reminiscent of the corridor. But the soft pictures collected from tiles of the same size as the main one will be come in handy in a small room. Vertical stripes of more saturated color than the main tone will beautifully decorate the room. A successful solution is to place light and bright vertical stripes, alternating them with rows of tiles with a pattern.

Way of Laying

The most common way of laying the tile is straight (under 90 without the displacement of rows). This method is suitable for any, including small rooms. On the floor, using a piling technique (in 90 degrees with a displacement of the rows is usually half the tiles) or oblique laying (in 45-60 degrees), you can achieve a visual increase in the room, but on the walls sometimes the opposite effect is obtained. Rectangular tiles should be placed vertically, so the ceiling will appear higher.

Before buying it is desirable to go shopping and see the collection “live”. It is also good to see some finished projects. You can visualize your ideas using special programs and see how this or that tile will look in a particular room.

The Size

For a small room it is preferable to choose a medium-sized tile. The small-format tile narrows the space due to the visual separation of the walls between the seams. This effect is especially strong if you use grouts that differ in tone from the main color. A very large tile in a small room looks cumbersome. In addition, its use requires a more accurate alignment of walls, which further takes away space. Choose the size of the tiles so that it requires minimal trimming.
